Gnumeric's interface has View -> Freeze that freezes the "top left" of
the spreadsheet, but I can't figure out how to shift it to one
set of columns or rows right now.
In OOo, however, there are two methods to doing this. One is to split
the window by selecting the range you want, and selecting Window ->
Split from the menu. This will cause the spreadsheet to be split into
two independently scrollable areas (also doable via the horizontal and
vertical black bars near the scrollbars).
The other, more traditional way, is to select the range you want to
freeze (at least one row or column larger than the actual set you want
frozen) and selecting Window -> Freeze from the menu.
