Silly question, but is the NIC set properly in relation to the
hub/switch? I've seen big differences when setting the NIC properties to
match the switch. For less expensive switches, 100 Mb/half duplex seems
to be the way to go. Leaving at 'Auto Select' causes the NIC to run at a
fraction of the speed. Perhaps the MS opsys's are automatically handling
the setting better than the default 'nix config?
