There's pretty good ieee1394 support in linux, as I've learned with my
various firewire devices (Sony Cam, Harddrive, PS2-kinda). Even with
firewire disk access, I get excellent video capture from the camera
using several programs. The main one I use is kino for basic stuff and
cinelerra for the complicated. cinelerra has about as steep a learning
curve as Adobe Premiere but it's at least F/OSS.
