the rules are pretty loose but of course the penalty for irritating
someone or breaking a generally accepted practice is to be harshly
criticized - I like that concept as it tends to get the point across
well but not everyone can take the criticism with the necessary grains
of salt.

The particular email in dispute by Matt looked like and smelled like a
composition designed for the mass public with absolutely no
customization towards PLUG members and simply appeared to be casting for
customers. The combination of these two items will be met with some
harsh criticisms when posted to a *nix topical mail list with the
criticism getting harsher with the higher level of technical knowledge
of the subscriber list. Again, this seems fair.

No one needs to get their nose bent out of joint and no one needs to
unsub.

As for posts that seem to be casting for business, it seems that we
would want the local businesses that use/support Linux to become well
known, live long and prosper. If they choose the spam the list, then may
the force be with them.
