I also have *very* limited experience here, but for what its worth, I've
had a Maxtor and a IBM drive die on me. I've *never* had a segate do so
(I have about 12 computers with Segate drives). I love how quiet they
are and I hear that now you can get Segates preinstalled with Linux free
of charge (though the ad I saw was for lindows).
