Along the IT guy's line of thinking, Netgear (and I'm sure others) makes
a small printserver that just plugs in to the network, the power, and
directly in to the printer. It's somewhere around $50 I think.
For #2: Yes, it's doable. Just enable file and print sharing and then
open the printer's properties and share the printer there.
