Subject: Local web hosting - recommendations? shamless self promotion
Dave,
Thanks for your help on this thing. "And then" looks good, but when the
different candidates have recommendations that are more or less equal, I'll
pick the one with the least onerous terms of service. And yours are a doozy.
I know I'm a bit of a fanatic on defining terms (guess I should have been a
lawyer) and I know you don't really mean it to be taken literally, but it
bothers me to see rules like "no unsolicted email" when you know darn well
that any business will be sending out unsolicited email. It'll just be in
ones and twos, not 50000 at a time like real spammers do. At least Deru's
agreement (which is objectionable enough) has that word "commerical" in
theirs, yours just says "no unsolicited email," which technically means that
if I send Joe Schmoe a message asking him to pay the $50 he owes me, I'm
spamming. (I think Fastq's agreement is quite reasonable, BTW.) The other
thing that irks me is the bit about nothing "discrimininatory" by race,
gender, blah blah blah. My site will be business-oriented, but I still steer
clear of places that would limit my right to perfectly legal free speech.
I'm not blaming you, it's just that I think the agreement is something your
company needs to pay closer attention to. Just my two cents.

Vaughn
