I might check the PS too. I had some similar, if not identical symptoms
recently and I too thought the mobo was toast, possibly along with it's
mounted hardware. Long story short, in my diagnosing, I decided to try a
new (well, different/spare) PS and it worked! That one test saved me a
good amount of money and I'm glad that's all I had to replace, as the
Win2k install on it would be most unhappy about a new IDE controller
(linux, of course, wouldn't mind as long as I keep the standard IDE
controller support in the kernel in addition to that which fits its
current surroundings best.
