the best laptop for linux

Nick,

Have you tried switching to a text console before attempting to sleep
when running X? The <Ctrl> <Alt> F2 trick? If you have not tried it you
should, it just might work. If it does there is a setting in the APM
scripts that will allow your laptop to sleep normally even in X.
