Subject: Seeking good, inexpensive DSL ISP
Thanks to all for the feedback and recommendations. I checked out FastQ and
ViaWest, and they looked good, but I ended up going with Deru for one
reason - they were less expensive. A few months back, that wouldn't have
been a concern, but business is slow these days. :-(
Anyway, Deru charges $20 a month if you pay monthly, but it's cheaper for
longer time periods. At $55 for three months, I'm paying only a few more
cents than the 17.95 I was paying to Getnet. What's more, Deru gives me a
backup dialup account, something Getnet didn't do. Qwest had that, so I
just assumed that Getnet did as well and I didn't even ask when I switched
over. But when I went on vacation a couple of months ago, I was appalled to
find out I couldn't access my account on the road without setting up a
separate dialup. I think they had a price break for DSL customers, but it
was still pretty steep for a service that I'd probably only use for 2-3
weeks out of the year. Hopefully this new account will be more reliable.
If not, I'll be switching again in 3 months.
