Good. If /sbin isn't in your path that shouldn't've worked. './chkconfig'
from within '/sbin' or '/sbin/chkconfig' from anywhere should.
Are you running these as root? The '#' is normally an indication that you're
at at root prompt, but there's also usually a space after it to make
everything more readable.
Note: the 'locate' and 'grep' commands don't need to be run as root, but
'chkconfig' does because it's changing a system parameter.
'/sbin' should be in the path for root. When going to a root shell are you
using 'su' or 'su -'?
