The '#' is normally an indication that you're at at root prompt, but there's also usually a space after it to make everything more readable. Note: the 'locate' and 'grep' commands don't need to be run as root, but 'chkconfig' does because it's changing a system parameter. '/sbin' should be in the path for root.
