I agree, you have to do your research other wise you get what you pay for.
Lots can go wrong at Frys, but its nice to be able to go to a local (if
it is local)
store and pick up a part. I watch the adds for Frys all the time and
check it out
on the internet. For instance I kept an I out on motherboards and Frys
had a combo
board and cpu deal for $99.00 A ECS K7S5A board and 1.5 Athlon XP+ cpu.
I checked it at Tomshardware and did Google searchs with it and linux, and
bought it and I believe my Mandrake likes it! ;-)

On the contrary, I generally look for items with the return sticker. Fry's
return policy (like most others) is only 30 days. However, the return
sticker states (first thing) that "Fry's Electronics will fully honor all
manufacturer's warrantees" . . . a fact which I have taken advantage of a few
times. Generally, the conversation goes like:

Sure, it is a little bit of trouble. However, I don't like the idea of having
to mail the item around (at my expense) to get it fixed.

As you stated, though, "you have to be very educated on how to shop at
Fry's". ;-)
