Yeah, I use Gentoo and it automatically puts the stuff in when you emerge xine (and xine-ui, and xine-lib) to play avi, mpeg, divx, whathaveyou.
I've used xine to play nearly every video file there is, minus DVD because I don't have a DVD-ROM..but it plays that too.
xine.sourceforge.net should have everything for it.
I do know that there is a plugin though.
