For those of us with laptops where you cant get to a +/- without using
shift or functions keys we do it the hardway.
Edit your XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file and specify directly the
resolution you need.
or on Debian w/ Gnome
apt-get install gvid (then its a snap)
or gvidm
or quickres-applet
