Subject: Install emacs on Linux

\_ SMTP quoth Mark Moynahan on 6/30/2002 01:16 as having spake thusly:
\_
\_ I've just installed linux(Mandrake 8.1) and I'm trying to get emacs
\_ installed. Disk 2 of Mandrake 8.1 is in the cdrom and accessible. When I run
\_ this command 'rpm -ivh emacs-X11-20.7-17mdk.i586.rpm' I get this error
\_ message 'error: failed dependencies: emacs is needed by
\_ emacs-X11-20.7-17mdk.i586.rpm'. Any suggestions on how to get Emacs
\_ installed would be greatly appreciated.

Look for the emacs-*mdk.i586.rpm package and install that
first/concurrently.

emacs-X11 is 'naturally' dependent on emacs, no?

:-)
