You could download the RPM, then use a Gnutella client to search for
"vmware serial" and see what pops up. This, however, goes against why
I buy retail distros - it's cool to support a company that makes
Linux products. I spent Thousands of $$$ on Windows crap just to
get what's on a Linux distro for under $100. Quite a bit of my
Windows $$$ went for clean up software, stabilizing software, and
anti-virus software - none of which is necessary under Linux.

This page still shows $299:
https://www.vmware.com/request_processor?nextPage=/vmwarestore/newstore/category.jsp&action=CATALOG.GETGROUPS&application=store&ProductGroupCodes=WKST3-WIN,WKST3-LX

The flexibility is wonderful. I use it to create testbeds that
I can destroy. I have a copy of my World Famous (well, it will be)
Firewall that I pound. I verified my backup procedure by restoring
the backup to a vmware instance - including disk partitioning. I
have a copy of Win95, that does my taxes, and some avi -> mpeg
conversions for me. I have a full e-commerce server set up. If I
totally hose any of them, I restore the image from backup, and
restart it. Trying this on real hardware is not really feasible.
