I use a Compaq Presario 5190 (450mhz AMD processor) with RedHat Linux 7.2. This computer has worked fine for me with no driver problems whatever...Now that I think about it, I take that back.
When I went from RedHat 7.1 to 7.2 the network card driver was broke and I had to switch from the "tulip" to the "4x5dec" driver...
The sound support also required manual configuration...
Those were good learning experiences!
The modem is a brain dead "winmodem" but I have not worried about that since I use the network connection to DSL.
I guess my point is that Compaq does use funky stuff sometimes but my Presario works just fine for me.
