I'm looking to move my elder computer out to another room, far away
from the hub. I have the happy cat5 already, I just need some basic
wiring advice.
I have the neato leviton snapin modular doodads for the cat5 plugs,
but it has *two* guides on it. "residential" and "business". Well,
I'm guessing that my house is "residential" but my purpose might be
"business". :-)
Basically, the idea I want is:
computer -- wall(1) -- cat5 crawlspace run -- wall(2) -- hub
Now, before I get detailed, is there anyone that can say "use
leviton's residential" definitively on this? :-) Or 'residence on
wall1 and business on wall2'?
Ok, now for painful details for you cable jockeys.
My cat5 is solid and white with stripe.
contact residence business
1 gr/white or/white
2 green orange
3 or/white gr/white
4 blue blue
5 bl/white bl/white
6 orange green
7 br/white br/white
8 brown brown
Now, while I'm reasonably sure I can manage contacts 4,5,7 + 8, the
others I'd just as soon not guess and check. :-)
I also have to note that the cat5 at home depot (base?) is $.12/ft
grey and .25/ft blue, but $54/1000ft grey spool and $164 blue spool.
Funny how it goes from 2x to 3x, no? But better than buying 1k @ .25
($250).
Grey works just fine for me. :-)
Thanks!
David
