That is exactly what I want to do. And /etc/rc.config is already set
to START_APMD="no" so it does not need to be modified. And I have
modified /usr/src/linux/.config so that all the "APM" items are
commented out. And it still automatically shuts off the computer at
shutdown. I need to get into a menuconfig that contains a line
"[*]Power off on shutdown (NEW)" and remove the "*" but there is no
menuconfig that I can find. When I tried running "make menuconfig"
as suggested in a "APM" doc all that occured was "no rule for
make menuconfig" so I am at a loss about what to do next.
