Tell ya what. Steve Jobs did this years ago and it was called Next. He
had audio, video, display postscript and great objective c development.
Now it is a bunch of years later and he has good hardware and can still
run the Mac apps. He also can take advantage of free software like
apache BSD etc. so he is building on his own success as well as that
from the free software community. When it is ported to a bunch of
different architectures and has tons of drivers for diverse hardware,
I'd be really impressed.
This is still the proprietary model above the Mach/BSD core. Keep
working on Linux, users for linux and things will improve. No doubt it
is a fine operating system and way better than NT or whatever they call
it today.
