When you say RedHat 7 with modifications - do you mean the long list of
"errata" patches found on the RedHat site, or something else?

IPCHAINS is pretty much the way to go as far as IPMASQ
goes. However, you might consider SQUID Proxy
server as a good alternate.
IPCHAINS/IPMASQ does have some drawbacks. some services that normally
work through windows (such as dialpad) won't work correctly through
an IPMASQ system.
so, it really depends on what you want to do..
I currently am running redhat 7 (with modifications) and I am not
running it with the default compiler installed (I updated using the
latest polish(ed) versions from rufus.w3.org).
