I had a related situation with a KVM switch. It's a LinkSys 4-way digital
switch. The problem was that one of my systems is a laptop, and it has a
single keyboard/mouse connector, which you can expand to two connectors with
a special adapter. When I switched to the laptop, the mouse would go crazy
and create "click" events multiple times per second. This effect was
independent of operating system. The LinkSys people said that the switch
was polling the keyboard and this was somehow disturbing the mouse.
Supposedly if I removed a line from the keyboard wire, this would remove the
problem. Putting a PS/2 to AT keyboard adapter in series with an AT to
PS/2 adapter was supposed to accomplish that effect, but it didn't help. I
gave up and used a separate mouse for the laptop. Oh well.
