Try: /sbin/fdisk

Are you entering the right password? Caps lock off and all that?

Insert your RedHat 6.2 CD, then (as root) type:

rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/ppp-2.3.11-4

When it's done, try again. This may be the cause of problem 2 above.

Good luck! There are other mail clients out there is kmail doesn't
work for you.
