With the problems I had with Ubuntu (frozen gray screen) I tried Kubuntu with not much more success. I went back to Mint (17.3) and have no problems. Both Ubuntu distros seem to take forever to start while Mint fires right up. I'll keep trying Ubuntu distros, but my main system will remain Mint.
