OT: How to add a second Google Voice number?

In further searching, I found an article at the link below with this title:

This seems to suggest that I could add a second number to the same
(single) account, but I'm a bit apprehensive about trying to do this
because I've seen some other articles that seem to indicate that adding a
second number might cause the loss of the original (existing GGV number)
which I definitely do not want to lose.

Anybody have any further insights or suggestions in this regard?

Can't seem to get any help, clarification, or advice from Google (i.e.
google voice forum, etc.)
