Bryan,
  I think you misunderstood what Jon was saying.  He wasn't saying that having DSL precludes FAX use, only that FAX's don't get sent via the Internet connection (without using a gateway).
You really can't send a FAX over the DSL line as *digital* data (without using a gateway), you have to send it over the (DSL)phone line as *analog* data.

Josef,
  Just plug your old modem into the (non-DSL)phone jack and use it for FAX with efax like you used to (just don't try to do the dial-up, your ethernet port and DSL box take care of Internet).
DSL doesn't really change how you send FAX's from what you used to do in the dial-up world.  It just splits the Internet part of your connections to a different (and much faster) port.
