K3B burns Memorex DVD's but not Maxell???

Hello,
Quick question: have any of you K3B users ever encountered problems with 
particular brands of DVD's?  I'm running Mandriva 2005 and I have a TDK 
DVDRW0404N burner.  My K3b version is 0.11.20 using KDE 3.3.2.  I am 
able to burn Memorex brand DVD-R blanks but not Maxell.  I tried 
uninstalling and reinstalling K3B via URPMI, but it didn't work.  After 
I click the "Burn" button, it brings up the "Writing Data DVD" window, 
and goes for 34 seconds until the "Started Writing" message.  It then 
fails with the following messages:
	OPC failed.  Please try writing speed 1x.
	Fatal error at startup: input/output error.
	Unable to eject media.
The last error is particularly strange, because K3B has no trouble 
ejecting a CD-R, or a Memorex DVD-R.  I have tried, as it suggested, 
setting the write speed to 1X, but that doesn't make a difference.  I 
wonder if there's some magic setting that could fix the problem.  Does 
anybody have a suggestion as to what I should try?

P.S. Any suggestions to change my distro will be respectfully rejected. 
  :-) I'd consider upgrading, as opposed to reinstalling, Mandriva, but 
I haven't had great luck with this in the past.
