Linux Java Development?

Hi Patrick,

I personally avoided an IDE while teaching myself Java. I did so because I wanted to learn java. Was a mixed blessing in that I got to see Java code first hand and I did learn a few things about it's short comings.

Never did use an IDE much and have put Java on hold for a while for a number of reasons.

My Suggestion - learn w/o an IDE then after you learn to code in a text editor investigate which IDE works they way you do.

I'm just taking a programming course at my local highschool, but I'd like to really learn one Linux IDE now, because I have two more Java classes after this, and I'd like to be familiar with just one. At school we use JCreator. I'm poking around with Eclipse JDT right now, but I'm still wondering if any of you folks have a preference.

Suggestions?
