This is old news but im new to the list and I wanted to post something.

If there is anyone out there that has not tried this distro yet.... you
have to try it. www.gentoo.com

the package management is very slick and simple. It's actually all
source based. the emerge tool automaticly downloads the source packages,
compiles them as well as all of their dependancys.

This distro is for advanced users, as it doesnt have any pretty config
tools. (think Slackware + Kickass package management). I have been a
slackware user for about a year now, I dident like how much other dists
were so *in your way* about configuration and things, however while it
may seem like a contradiction for very common apps I did miss a good
package manager. Gentoo's package management however is pretty
unobtrusive and easy to understand/track. Of course one would never use
a package manager of any sort for things you want fine grained
configuration control over like Qmail and things.

Well anyway I'm impressed, its the first dist that ive seen (other than
slack) that I might consider putting on my main box.

This is yet another example of the shear power of open source.
