actually, if you install the FUSE package, there should be more advanced handlers to correct some of those errors. I use something like that here to correct issues on an NTFS external drive while in OS X. The preference package includes linux code for the FUSE project and seems to work reasonably well for most issues. However, there are some issues that require the use of a real windows installation to correct.
