anyone know of a good USB DVD writer that works well with ubuntu?

matt, i will post what i know:
first, of all, apparently this dvd works fine in ubuntu 8.04. I was able to use
the DVD to install 8.10; when booting 8.10, to my surprise the DVD writer did
not work!

2009 i686 GNU/Linux
I have an ASUS N80Vx series laptop.
It is a very nice laptop, even the 5 in 1 reader works. Only the DVD in ubuntu
8.10 doesn't.
