Webcam - Thanks for the Fish!

I ran luvcview and it worked, also with the help of lsusb, I was able to 
see that it was in fact being seen by the system.   Running it on 
another machine (32bit) with Skype works flawlessly and since that was 
the intent, it would appear that:

Well, I think I need to go back to 32bit - is there a "easy" way via 
adept,apt,synaptic???  Or am I looking at a OS reinstall  :-(
