So I unmerged all of my cells (it is, after all only aesthetics) and now I do 
not get the error but it does not copy anything. Hmmmmm.... on a whim I 
decided to cut it and then to paste it and it will cut  and paste it once. 
And I have discovered that oo seems not to like to paste things in front of 
existing things. My work around will be to copy everything behind and then 
erase what I don't need. Unless someone has a better idea!
