kubuntu slowness

I think kubuntu is a good distro. I have been running it now for a couple 
weeks.

Now I have a question:

Before when I was running Mandrake I was running a game called frozen-bubble.
I installed frozen-bubble on kubuntu, and it runs much slower (I'm guessing a 
factor of 10)

Can anyone hazard a guess as to why?
