How to copy a DVD?

I've done as suggested, but it still doesn't work. 
(wasting lots of DVD blanks here ...) 

The first phase reports "Success" and the source DVD contents 
are successfully copied to the "tmp" hard disk space and, as I 
previously mentioned, it is saved with the file name: k3b_image.img 
and the "type" is described as "Plain text document" of a file size 907.2 MB 

But when I choose  Tools->DVD->Burn DVD ISO image 
the result in red letters says: "Not an ISO 9660 image". 
Below that is a check-sum number with a green check, 
so that tells me that the data copied is not flawed. 
But the "START" button is greyed out and cannot be used. 

In my multiple previous attempts, I tried dragging the copied DVD 
file to "New data DVD project" which is similar to the procedure 
I have used to successfully burn CDs, but the result of that has 
been a coaster. 

Very frustrating. 

Also, responding to some other more recent comments, 
I am burning at 4x speed onto a DVD-R (not RW) and the player 
I am using is a brand new DVD player that claims to play all DVD 
and CD formats.
