CPU Speeds and Fry's E (OT)

This sounds more like an issue with the particular Motherboard and not
the actual CPU. I would fault the chipset for your mobo in this
instance.
I'm also wondering if the knoppix issues with the speed are related to
the default kernel. It'd be interesting to see how compiled kernels for
different cpu types behave on those boxen.
