Linux and 80GB hdds; how large can hda1 be and still boot off hda2?

Hi Lee,

I'd think the most significant hurtle would be your computer's BIOS. If the
computer's BIOS is obsolete, you might be able to perform a FLASH upgrade.
If it is more obsolete than that (you can't FLASH it to something more up to
date) then you'll be stuck with the 1024 cylinder limit... As I understand
things, if the boot partition is within this 1024 cylinder limit, either
Grub or Lilo can boot from it, then the Kernel loads and can handle the
large drive translation your BIOS can't perform. The question is, what
happens in Windows with such a dual-boot configuration? Can it even be done
if Windows must boot outside the first 1024 cylinders? And, if so, does any
version of Windows have the capability to perform the large drive
translation work that the BIOS won't perform?

Thanks.
