Presentation Abstract:
Eclipse (www.eclipse.org) is an open source platform for building tools
for developers. The platform was designed from the ground-up with
extensibility in mind. A scalable plug-in mechanism and a rich set of APIs
enable developers to explore new tools quickly without having to reinvent
the wheel. This presentation will focus on:
- The design goals of Eclipse
- Who contributes to Eclipse and how they do it
- How to work in and extend Eclipse (demonstration)
About the speaker:
Randy Faust is an Embedded Java Activist at the IBM Phoenix OTI Lab. He
spent 2003 working in Zurich, Switzerland on the Eclipse JDT UI team,
under the direction of Erich Gamma. He has an extensive background with
the J9 virtual machine, J2ME and integrated development environments.
EclipseCon information:
Join us for EclipseCon 2004, Feb 2-5 in Anaheim California, the first
annual technical conference for Eclipse! This conference will bring
together developers from the open source projects and the commercial
community for a week of keynotes, tutorials, demos, poster sessions,
exhibits, and Birds-of-a-Feather sessions. This first annual conference
promises to be unique, because most of the original eclipse open source
developers will be there, and the program committee has put together a
fabulous program of keynotes, technical talks, tutorials, and other
events.
EclipseCon will be a highly interactive event. We’re all looking forward
to making new acquaintances, meeting new and long standing collaborators,
and meeting in person, the people behind the emails and newsgroup
postings!
