Not a VM, but I just use the Snap version of Firefox which runs it under Apparmor and a bunch of other filesystem chroots. That's on Ubuntu. You'd have to make sure the Snap setup for your distro has confinement setup correctly.
Also, if you run your other desktop apps as Snaps you get that same confinement on those.
