It is 32-bit. The thing that concerns me is that I have an XP SP1 ISO that has worked for years with every version of BackTrack and Kali including Kali 3. I just cannot get this ISO of XP SP0 to work with version 3. Since the class needs to be able to create the lab off campus I need them to be able to get a working version of XP SP0 or SP1. I would be happy with a VM but I have not been able to find a VM for pre SP3 which I need for this to work. XP SP2 and later closes the hole that this lab takes advantage of. I am open to any solution as long as students can create the whole environment from home.
I hope this make sense.
Thank You,
David

Initially, I would guess architecture. Offensive Security is adamant about users using their VM, because it’s a 32-bit build, which is needed for the buffer overflow exercise. I know other things changed from 2 to 3, as well (disregarding architecture), such as hydra’s functionality. Could you check the architecture and let us know?

For one of the security classes I teach I have used a lab where a Kail Linux system does a reverse TCP connection from a Windows XP SP1 system. The lab needs to be changed so that the students complete it outside the lab. Since there is no way to directly have the ISO where the students can download it, I have to have them get it from the Internet. I have found a site (
https://archive.org/details/Microsoft_Windows_XP_Professional_Version_2002_Microsoft_X08-26176) where the ISO can be downloaded. I have also found an install key: XP8BF-F8HPF-PY6BX-K24PJ-TWT6M, that works.
The problem I am having is that Metasploit in Kali 2 works just fine, however, the Metasploit in Kali 3 will not work. This is a simple lab that allows for commands to work. The Kali 2 looks like:
But Kali 3 does:
I have tried my best but I cannot see why Kali 3 does not work. Does anyone have any ideas how to get this to work in Kali 3?
Thank You,
David

Can anyone help me with Metasploit using Kali 2 and Kali 3? I have been waiting for weeks to be able to post a question on the Kali forums, but I cannot get them to allow me to post a question. I have a lab for a class in a couple of weeks that I am having a problem with in Kali 3, but it works in Kali 2. Is there anyone who might be able to help me?
Thank You,
