I quite like pxe booting systems because you can plug in new compute nodes
very quickly. There is a use case for it, though it's pretty specific.
Not having to deal with failing hard drives except on your main array can
be a huge timesaver.
Not that I recommend that setup for most users, just saying there is a use
case for it. Also, something to plink with if you want to try new ideas,
and easy enough to fiddle until you get the balance you like. PXE booting
is very simple to setup, though can be fiddly if you can't guarantee
consistent hardware.
