Mike, BLFS will give you a laundry list of all you need to have installed to
get VLC compiled.
I certainly admire and encourage your ambition, but this may be a little bit
above your head (it is almost above mine).
Why do you want to compile VLC anyway?
What's wrong with your distro's package?
