Hi, Mark.
Looks like you intended this to go to the entire list, but only sent it to
me. :) (Copying back in the list on this reply.)
Everyone that's replied so far seems to think it's a graphics problem, and
I'm still thinking that's the issue. When the system seems to boot up (even
though the screen goes blank), did you get anywhere with trying the things I
suggested in my second paragraph below? It would be instructive to know if
the system was basically running but just not doing the display properly.
If you could ssh into the system during this state, you might be able to see
some log file entries that explained the cause of the display not working
correctly, (or maybe see some log entries that pointed to a different
problem altogether).
Cheers.

At the boot: prompt, I've typed:
knoppix64
knoppix64 screen=1920x1080 depth=24 to set screen resolution
& knoppix64 2 to boot into text only mode.
All respond identically.
As noted in my similar Ubuntu boot problem post, an old Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit)
CD loads & works fine in live CD mode.
Anyone have an idea what's with this crazy box?

Hi, Mark.
I've had this happen before and it's usually that X has blown up and not
started correctly. Have you tried just switching to a text terminal to see
if the system has actually started except for X? If you can log into a text
terminal, you have a chance of troubleshooting/fixing.
If your systems all get DHCP leases from your router, you can also take a
look at the active leases and see if the Knoppix system actually appears to
be booted far enough along to be on the network. Pings to validate it's
alive and then potentially ssh for login/troubleshooting might work if none
of the displays locally are working.
Cheers.

Subject: knoppix
The venerable CD of my old favorite, knoppix, having died, I downloaded the
64 bit DVD ISO (I have a 64 bit system) & burned it to a DVD. I booted from
the DVD and at the boot prompt typed the knoppx64 option. It started off
just fine, then went to a totally blank screen. The last couple of lines
before it went blank went by too fast to really notice.
The md5sum of the downloaded ISO matches.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is, and more importantly, what
to do about it?
Many thanks for any help!
