Bluetooth wireless device with Linux?

How can I use bluetooth wireless devices with Linux (Mint) desktop?

Synaptic shows several (apparently) bluetooth items installed including:
bluedevil, bluez, bluez-alsa, pulseaudio, KDE Bluetooth stack ... and a
bunch more items available. But I have not found any info on how to use
any of these items.

I have a bluetooth (earprint) device and a small hdmx wireless speaker
that I use with my android phone. Is there a way to use either with my
Linux (Mint) desktop? If so, how?
