I know that you already have this solved, but I was looking around for
alternate solutions and ran across something that is a standard KDE item
and has been on my system forever, but I've never used it. Have you
tried using kalarm? It appears to do exactly what you are looking for
without all the "at" stuff. It will allow you to have an audible alarm,
desktop notification, send an email or run a command at whatever
time/date you want, with or without it reoccurring. You can even setup
templates so if you do have some complicated command that you would like
to run that you can set it up quickly the next time to use it.
