Subject: OT: Figuring Sales Tax for Online Sales

Hi,

I support a California business who does most of it's business online.  I need to figure out how to determine the sales tax rates for California only.  As things change all online sales may be taxed soon so I need to prepare for that as well.

I know I am not the first person to have to deal with collecting sales tax from online sales.  I do not want to build anything that would require us to maintain tax tables or to decipher who is in what jurisdiction.

I've done a little research and find little in the way of an affordable subscription, or a government API.  As this campaign to get all online retailers to pay local sales tax continues, I'd hate to have to maintain 50 or more API's just to be able to satisfy the governments requirement that we collect sales tax.

Currently we collect sales tax based on the highest rate for those who ship using a California address. Our system allows for one tax rate at the state level.

Anyone have any experience with collecting sales tax on line?

Thank you in advance for your help!!
