Question about remastering a live CD.

I'd like to try remastering a live CD.

Can someone recommend a good step-by-step how-to.

As one specific objective, I'd like to incorporate
an html menu that would appear on the opening screen
with an introductory message.

Where (in the top (root /) directory, I presume,
should one place such a file?
