Sorry, late with the reply. Here is the a11y work that is going on in
Unity this cycle:

Unity itself isn't complete as we recommended all users require a11y
assistance to use unity-2d (it is more complete in that regard). Our
goal in this cycle is to not have that recommendation and have all users
using the same default (if they have drivers). If you think that there
are other things that need to be done I'd recommend talking to Luke (who
is the driver there).
