I presume the network interface is on the motherboard. Is it enabled in
the bios? If so, my guess is that it's bad/fried. You might try booting
Knoppix to confirm. I think I'd buy a $10 PCI Nic at Fry's Electronics.
I've used the Trendnet cards for a number of years, with nary a problem.
